Descanso: An Urban Oasis Revealed
In 2003, after many years of extensive travel throughout the American West and Southeast Asia, landscape photographer Warren Marr sought to expand his vision by looking inward. For an entire year, on an almost daily basis he visited Descanso Gardens in Southern California to produce a body of work which has received high acclaim and been published as Descanso: An Urban Oasis Revealed, by Balcony Press, in Glendale, CA. Anne Lyden, Assistant Curator of Photography at The J. Paul Getty Museum, has compared the work to Gustave Le Gray’s photographs of Fontainebleau outside of Paris in 1850. David R. Brown, executive director of Descanso Gardens and former president of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, describes the images as “very much works of art in their conceptual rigor, composition, timing, and almost hallucinatory detail.” Descanso is available at fine book stores nationwide and the Descanso Gardens Gift Shop. Signed copies are available directly from the artist's studio. Hardcover books are $42.95, and softcover books are $24.95. |
